Nourished Self is when we discover the right balance of foods for our body and the right lifestyle, that leaves us feeling satisfied and nourished within. When we invest time to explore how our health is affected by other dimensions in our lives and learn how to nourish ourselves with both positive food and lifestyle choices, we greatly improve our health and happiness.  Nourished Self is dedicated to helping clients live healthier and happier lives.

As founder of Nourished Self, I spent most of my life ignoring the signals my body was telling me. I always thought it was ‘mind over matter’ and frequently pushed my body and mind to the brink of complete exhaustion. I experienced low energy, digestive issues, allergies, congestion, headaches, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, depression and aches and pains. I was miserable most of the time. I was an emotional eater, and how I chose to nourish my body was greatly dependent on how I felt about myself.  I also was a typical workaholic who found it hard to say no to people and I always put everyone else’s needs before my own.  I didn’t feel that I deserved to be healthy and happy, and therefore never made a commitment to make improvements in my life.

Eventually I grew sick and tired of being ‘sick and tired’. I became emotionally and physically exhausted.  I was very ill physically, and developed depression and anxiety.  Part of the issue was my diet, but a larger part of the picture was the emotional piece and my lifestyle habits. After hitting ‘rock bottom’ with my health, I decided to take my health back into my own hands.   I made changes to both my diet and lifestyle, addressed emotional issues, and before long I had improved my health and I became much happier.

I discovered several food intolerances that were connected to my low energy levels, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances. I also became aware of a food allergy that was making me ill. I learned to balance my lifestyle, manage stress, practice self care and eat foods that nourished my body instead of making me sick. I learned to listen to my body and it’s needs, and meet those needs without feeling guilty. I surrounded myself with supportive people and found a rewarding career that I was excited about and that provided me with energy, instead of draining me of it. As a result, I became more energized, was ill less often, eliminated the need for my asthma and other medications, and learned how it felt to really nourish my body and mind. I began to think more clearly and, most importantly, I felt healthy and truly happy. It was such a relief not to be miserable anymore! It was such a surprise to me that the secret to living a happy and healthy life, all came down to how I chose to nourish my body and soul.

After teaching for several years, I decided to combine my passion for health, nutrition, and education by attending a professional training program. I am passionate about helping others achieve their optimal health and happiness. I am currently studying Holistic Health Coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. I work with my clients to make both nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve their health. In addition, I have B.Ed. and B.Sc degrees with a concentration in Biological Sciences.
